Emotional Regulation
Neurofeedback for feeling more emotionally calm and regulated
Do you need support in improving your ability to stay calm and resilient during emotional moments?
“I hate how my emotions seem to take over so much of the time.”
One thing we can expect in life… that difficult things will come up and we will have to deal with them. You might be going through a difficult moment in your relationship, dealing with long-term stress about family dynamics, or feel like you’re in the trenches of parenthood. And you can feel yourself trying to stay calm but you just don’t feel like you are very emotionally resilient.
When we aren’t emotionally resilient, normal life stress tend to have a big, negative impact on our perception of life, our self-esteem, and our ability to respond to the stress appropriately—like with ideas of how we are going to help ourselves get through it! You might be getting feedback from your friends, family or partner that you “fly off the handle” or “don’t know how to handle stress”. I want you to experience that power of emotional regulation. And emotional regulation starts with the nervous system.
I want you to feel calm, regulated and ready to take on emotional moments with resilience and confidence. If you are struggling to feel regulated in tough moments in life, then NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback can help you train your brain to be more emotionally resilient.
“I’ve been through some significant trauma. Can neurofeedback help me?”
I am a clinical psychologist that specializes in treating trauma. I suggest neurofeedback for all of my trauma patients that need some extra support in-between sessions. Non-linear neurofeedback is using information from your central nervous system and showing it back to your brain like a mirror. The brain is an incredible self-correcting organ and it uses that information and makes a little change for the future.
Does your child struggle emotional resilience and you need a way to support them?
“My child has a hard time adjusting to things and processing their emotions. Help!”
I am the step mom to a house full of kids and one thing is for sure: some kids just need a little more support in managing their emotional experiences. I’m a trauma psychologist and I talk to people about their feelings all day long and I want to give my kids a space to process their emotional experiences and show more resiliency when stressful things come up in their lives.
In our house, we have a two-prong approach to teaching our children emotional regulation. First, we want to create a safe space to express feelings and work our ways through them. We want to hear them out and then help them figure out what their feelings are telling them. Secondly, we use neurofeedback to help each of our children’s brains how to regulate when things get heightened for them. We discovered NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback and brought brain train home.
NeurOptimal® does not require a diagnosis and does not treat any one particular disorder, but it can help with overall mental fitness and improve:
Self-esteem and lowered self-consciousness
Stress management and ability to be flexible
Emotional reactivity and ability to calm down during stressful situations
Resilience and openness to feedback
Improved concentration and problem-solving
Focus and attention
Better ability to relate to others
How neurofeedback can help you or your family member struggling with emotional regulation?
NeurOptimal® is a professional-grade non-linear neurofeedback system. It’s a different kind of neurofeedback than the older systems and really makes neurofeedback easy to do and approachable for the entire family.
Essentially, NeurOptimal® is helping the brain self-correct by holding up a mirror to the brain and telling the brain how it is operating. Just think about what the brain is doing when you are learning a new task. When you fail at that task at the beginning, your brain marks this as a “difference” and self-corrects so you can continue to do better each time you try the new task. NeurOptimal® is marking the “different” signals your central nervous system is sending from your brain and giving that information back to the brain so that we can learn from that information and self-correct.
FAQs
Is neurofeedback safe for children?
Yes, neurofeedback is non-invasive and a non-medical brain training strategy for all ages. There are no known side effects and we have ways to make neurofeedback interesting enough for your child to sit through a session.
Do I come to the office for treatment?
Nope, the NeurOptimal® system is so easy to use that we ship it to your home. We can walk you through the (very easy) set up or you can follow our printed instructions. We send you everything that you need to get started.
How long are each of the sessions?
Each session is 33.5 minutes. There’s relaxing music playing during the session, while the neurofeedback system does all the work at giving your brain helpful information. We can also provide you with some movies to watch if you need more entertainment.
Can I use this while I’m going to therapy?
Absolutely. This is not “treatment”. This is brain training to help your overall mental fitness and how you show up in your relationships, work, and family life. You can use neurofeedback in between your therapy sessions as an adjunct to the support you are receiving from your clinician.
How do I know if I struggle with emotional regulation?
We want you to feel resilient to life circumstances. So if you’d like to feel more empowered and able to manage your emotional responses, then brain training can help you achieve these goals.
